EnerTwin: Powerstation and heating for your home

The EnerTwin is a heating system that is driven by a small gas turbine and thus generates heat and electricity at the same time. Such plants are called combined heat and power (CHP) plants.

With his Solar Impulse Foundation, Bertrand Piccard created an award that is granted to solutions, products and systems that stand out due to their particularly high environmental friendliness and simultaneous economic profitability.

Since the EnerTwin generates not only heat but also electricity, the purchase and service costs pay for themselves in a short time. Environmentally Friendly

The EnerTwin saves between 30 - 60% of the environmental impact and energy losses that are normally caused by heating and drawing electricity from the socket. The reason for this is that the EnerTwin not only produces heat, but also electricity at the same time, and does so where the energy is directly needed, in one's own property.

60% of the electricity is lost through the transmission losses of the lines to the socket. The central electric power plants destroy the heat generated during electricity production because only a fraction can be fed into district heating networks. Typically, the electricity generators of these power plants are cooled with river water. When electricity is purchased from abroad, a relevant share comes from carbon-fired power plants and nuclear power plants.

Profitable Also At Night And In Winter

Unlike solar systems, these environmentally friendly savings of the EnerTwin also come into play at night, in bad weather and in winter, when solar systems do not supply electricity and therefore have to rely on the public grid to operate the heat pump and supply the electrical consumers of the property.

Lightweight, durable, low-maintenance, enduring, easy to install/operate, quiet, vibration-free

The list of positive attributes is long. Unlike conventional CHP plants, the EnerTwin is very light and as easy to install as a normal gas heating system. The turbine technology has the great advantage that it consists of only one (1) moving part. This means that wear and tear is low, the service life is long and maintenance is inexpensive. The EnerTwin can therefore also be easily used in private properties, which is cumbersome and therefore rarely the case with conventional combined heat and power units with engines.

Suitable For Almost Every Type Of House

The EnerTwin is ideal for large single-family houses, semi-detached houses, apartment blocks, historic and older buildings (where no solar system can be installed or more energy is required, high-temperature heating), public buildings and commercial properties or office buildings.

Stand-Alone Solutions, Semi-Autonomous Solutions

The EnerTwin's electricity production can also be used to implement solutions that make the building independent of the electricity grid or ensure emergency power supply over a longer period of time, thus supporting the batteries.

For far-flung areas, the EnerTwin can also be operated with liquid gas from the tank. Thanks to the turbine technology, the power does not decrease even at high altitudes.

Swimming Pool Operation More Environmentally Friendly And Cheaper

The EnerTwin also helps save costs on an indoor or outdoor pool and makes operation more environmentally friendly.

Combine And Cascade

The EnerTwin can be combined with other systems, for example with a solar system. Heat storage units and electricity storage units can be integrated into the overall system. For even more power or 99.99% reliability, you can connect several EnerTwin in series. Cascade control and runtime optimization are included as standard.

High Efficiency

The EnerTwin produces 18.8 kW/h of energy, of which 15.6 kW/h is heat and 3.2 kW/h is electricity. To obtain this useful energy, 20 kW/h of biogas (or a mixture of biogas and 23% hydrogen or liquid gas) must be added. This means that the efficiency is an outstanding 94% and the EnerTwin can run around the clock 7/24h. That is 8,760 operating hours per year or 136,600 kW/h of heat and 28,000 kW/h of electricity.

Rule of Thumb Calculation

For this 20 kW/h of biogas you will pay (in Switzerland depending on the municipality) approx. CHF 1.50 to 2.40. Thus 1 kW/h of useful energy (without investment and service) from EnerTwin costs between CHF 0.08 and 0.12 and not only for the heat, but also for the electricity.

By way of comparison, the electricity price in Switzerland is between CHF 0.18 and 0.24 per kW/h.

According to the experts' assessment, electricity prices will continue to rise and gas prices will fall in the near future.

Stable Power Output

The EnerTwin still delivers the same power after 10 or 20 years. Solar panels loose at least 20% of their power after 10 to 20 years. Traditional combustion engine operated CHP systems have to change the engine and other moving parts at least before 9'000 operating hours.

Increases The Security Of Supply

"Last but not least" the EnerTwin as a combined heat and power unit makes the power grid more secure and stable, which is a factor that should not be underestimated today. The power supply is becoming more unstable every year due to the shutdown of nuclear power plants, electromobility and the greater number of solar installations. This is becoming an increasing problem, especially in Switzerland in the winter months, as electricity has to be imported from abroad and the supply can therefore already no longer be planned and guaranteed 100%. This is why there are much more frequent smaller and larger power interruptions in Switzerland than was previously the case.

The nomination: "Solarimpulse Efficient Solution"

With the above facts, it is easy to understand why Bertrand Piccard and the Solar Impulse Foundation awarded the EnerTwin the "Efficient Solution" label.

As the distributor of EnerTwin, we are extremely pleased about the appreciation and recognition of the EnerTwin and congratulate the developer and manufacturer MTT Micro Turbine Technology and its innovative engineers for having developed this technology. So fare it only existed for turbines in the megawatt range.

The EnerTwin has had Swiss SVGW approval for connection to the electricity and gas grid since March 2019. The Europe-wide approval exists since 2018.
